Aktion National Airport (Aktio, PVK), near Preveza, is the closest airport to Lefkada: about half an hour by car from Lefkada Town and about 36 km, roughly 40 minutes, from our office in Nidri. Opened in 1968, it is both a civil airport and an air force base, and most of its routes are seasonal.
The road south to Lefkada does not use the undersea tunnel to Preveza: it crosses the causeway and the floating bridge into Lefkada Town. We can meet you at the airport with your vehicle; give us your flight number when you book and we will follow your arrival time.
History is close by: the Battle of Actium was fought off this cape in 31 BC, when Octavian defeated Antony and Cleopatra. To celebrate, he founded Nikopolis, the City of Victory, a little north of Preveza; its theatre, odeon and walls are well worth a visit on your first or last day.
The airport lies on the southern shore of the Ambracian Gulf; Preveza, with its waterfront and old town, is only about ten minutes away through the undersea tunnel.
